Your opportunity

Our client builds North America’s leading clinical practice software for mental healthcare providers. They are a mission-driven innovator rooted in research and building the tools to support the emergent clinical category they are creating. They currently serve >350 healthcare organizations and tens of thousands of clinicians delivering care in clinics, hospitals, campuses, and workplaces. The company also serves regional health systems by providing population-level insights and bolsters continuity of care by making patient data on the platform portable to a variety of care providers and program administrators.

As their Engineering Manager, you’ll lead and grow the team building their clinical product, a group whose work directly shapes how mental healthcare is delivered. This is a player-coach role, reporting to the Head of Engineering Operations. You’ll lead through mentorship, process, and technical clarity while staying hands-on in the code.

This role sits close to the work. You'll contribute to reviews, participate in design discussions, and lead by example. As AI-assisted development reshapes what individual and team productivity looks like, you'll help the team adopt and evaluate these tools and model what it means to use them with strong engineering judgment.

Key responsibilities

  • Team coaching: Support direct reports through regular 1:1s, clear expectations, and ongoing feedback that helps each person grow in their role and career

Hiring and onboarding: Hire and onboard new engineers, and facilitate performance reviews and career development conversations

  • Team environment: Build trust and clarity so the team can focus on doing their best work, and facilitate knowledge sharing through code reviews, pairing, and design discussions

  • Technical contribution: Stay hands-on by contributing to code reviews, technical design and architecture, and writing code regularly

  • AI-assisted development: Help the team navigate AI-assisted development by evaluating tools, establishing good practices, and modeling effective use without compromising correctness, security, or maintainability

  • Engineering quality: Raise the bar on testing practices, code hygiene, CI/CD, observability, and scalability

  • AI product features: Contribute to building AI-powered product features where appropriate, including LLM integrations, agentic flows, and evaluation pipelines

  • Delivery health: Own the team's delivery health and ensure continuous shipping of high-quality product improvements in a CI/CD environment

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Product, Design, and other product development teams to shape the roadmap, break down work, and deliver iteratively

  • Process ownership: Maintain and evolve agile processes that help the team move fast while balancing short-term delivery with long-term technical health

Your know-how

  • You have 8+ years of engineering experience, with strong full-stack development across frontend, backend, APIs, and data

  • You are fluent in or able to quickly ramp up in a stack that includes Python, JavaScript and TypeScript, Django, PostgreSQL, Redis, and AWS

  • You bring a player-coach mindset and are comfortable moving between writing code and leading people, knowing when each is needed

  • You have a practitioner's understanding of how GenAI development tools change engineering workflows, including what they do well, where they fall short, and how to build a team culture that uses them well

  • You have experience hiring, coaching, and managing software engineers, and you give direct, constructive feedback while building trust quickly

  • You are proficient in designing scalable, maintainable systems, including databases, APIs, job queues, integrations, and cloud infrastructure

  • You are comfortable implementing and iterating on software delivery practices, including CI/CD, code quality, testing, security, compliance, and reliability

  • You are a strong written and verbal communicator who can translate between technical and non-technical audiences and align across Product, Design, and Customer Success

  • You bring a growth mindset and continuously learn while helping others do the same

It’s a bonus if

  • You have experience in digital health, healthcare software, or other regulated or sensitive data environments

  • You are familiar with healthcare compliance standards such as HIPAA and SOC 2

  • You have built GenAI-powered product features end-to-end
