They offer nationwide coverage, handling projects of any size or complexity to optimize warehouse logistics through innovative automation and robotic solutions.
The Electrical & Mechanical Estimator plays a critical role in supporting growth, profitability, and operational excellence by developing accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for electrical and mechanical scopes of work. This position ensures that proposals reflect a complete understanding of project specifications, labor requirements, material pricing, and risk considerations. Acting as a key liaison between sales and operations, the role contributes to successful bid outcomes, strengthens client partnerships, and enables the delivery of safe, efficient, and profitable projects.
Key responsibilities
Opportunity evaluation: Review RFQs and specify services to meet customer requirements
Cost optimization: Consult with sales and suppliers to understand cost-driving components and deliver cost-effective solutions
Margin management: Maintain focus on driving toward desired profit margins across all estimates
Bid preparation: Review and interpret customer data, specifications, and drawings to prepare timely bid packages
Material takeoffs: Prepare detailed material takeoffs for equipment, labor, subcontractors, and associated project costs
Cost modeling: Develop cost models, labor hour calculations, and unit pricing based on industry standards and internal benchmarks
Estimation accuracy: Ensure all estimates accurately reflect material pricing, labor rates, overhead, and margin expectations
Proposal leadership: Lead the preparation of competitive bids, RFQs, and RFP responses
Vendor coordination: Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to solicit, review, and compare competitive quotations
Risk identification: Identify clarifications, exclusions, assumptions, and risk factors within each bid package
Proposal support: Support the creation of proposal narratives, scope summaries, and pricing sheets
Sales partnership: Partner with sales teams to support presales strategy and customer engagement
Project transition: Work closely with project managers to transition awarded projects, confirm scope, and support kickoff activities
Technical review: Identify potential scope gaps, constructability challenges, and project schedule impacts
Compliance assurance: Ensure estimates comply with industry codes, safety standards, and project specifications
Data management: Maintain organized estimate files, costing data, and historical project pricing archives
Team support: Support the robotics and automation team to help drive sales and technical solutions
Customer interaction: Interact with customers during product solution development to assist in closing new business
Departmental objectives: Perform related duties as assigned to accomplish departmental goals effectively
Your know-how
3–7 years of estimating experience in electrical, mechanical, or mechanical, electrical, and plumbing environments
Experience with commercial, industrial, or institutional construction projects
Working knowledge of material handling systems including conveyors, sorters, cranes, and ASRSs
Exceptional project management skills
Strong understanding of electrical systems including distribution, lighting, low voltage, and controls
Working knowledge of material handling systems such as conveyors, sorters, cranes, goods-to-person, and automated storage and retrieval systems
Strong financial acumen with the ability to create pricing models and evaluate project profitability
Detail-oriented with strong attention to accuracy, quality, and precision
Analytical thinker with the ability to break down complex systems and work in a methodical, process-driven manner
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities with high dependability in meeting deadlines
Clear and effective communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and strong relationship building skills
Commercially minded with an understanding of cost, margin, financial impact, and value building
Collaborative team player who works well across departments and maintains composure under pressure during tight bid cycles
Inquisitive, continuous learner who is ethical, transparent, trustworthy, and organized with strong documentation discipline
Strong numerical reasoning and comfort with calculations
Proactive in identifying missing information, risks, and clarifications
Knowledge of equipment, design, sizing, selection, and varying industry applications
Proven background using estimating software
As this role is open to anywhere in Canada or the United States, the posted salary range is to cover a wide variety of locations (everything from small towns to big cities!). Compensation range by specific location will be shared during the interview process.
