Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Office-first - Toronto, Canada

$160,000 - $210,000 + equity

Your opportunity

We’re supporting a fast-growing Canadian fintech that has reimagined how people manage their largest recurring expenses and is focused on helping them gain more value from every dollar spent. Already processing over a billion dollars in annual payment volume and serving a rapidly expanding user base, the team is building critical financial infrastructure that demands robust, secure, and scalable systems.

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll play a central role in shaping the cloud environments and operational foundations that allow this platform to scale safely, reliably, and in line with evolving security and compliance requirements.

As transaction volume and product complexity continue to grow, infrastructure has become a core part of the company’s ability to operate predictably in production. The underlying systems must support high availability, strong security controls, and operational consistency as usage scales.

This role offers meaningful technical ownership and influence, with close collaboration across backend engineering and leadership. It is well-suited to an experienced infrastructure engineer who is motivated by operating high-stakes systems at scale and taking responsibility for how production infrastructure performs day to day.

Key responsibilities

  • Infrastructure architecture: Design and implement cloud infrastructure that supports sustained growth in transaction volume while maintaining reliability and performance

  • Cloud ownership: Own and evolve Google Cloud Platform environments across compute, networking, data, and security services

  • Compliance & security: Architect and maintain infrastructure aligned with PCI DSS and SOC 2 requirements, including encryption, secrets management, audit trails, and access controls

  • Infrastructure as code: Build and maintain Terraform modules for repeatable, auditable infrastructure provisioning and change management

  • Observability & reliability: Implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices using production-grade observability tooling

  • Performance & cost optimization: Continuously improve system performance, availability, and cost efficiency at scale

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with backend engineers to deploy, monitor, and optimize payment processing systems

  • Operational excellence: Lead incident response efforts, contribute to postmortems, and strengthen runbooks and reliability practices

  • Technical leadership: Establish infrastructure best practices and mentor engineers on DevOps, cloud architecture, and operational maturity

Tech stack

  • Cloud platform: Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, Cloud Deploy, KMS, networking)

  • Infrastructure as code: Terraform

  • CI/CD & containerization: GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Docker

  • Observability: Datadog (APM, infrastructure monitoring, logging, alerting)

  • Data & caching: PostgreSQL (Cloud SQL), Redis

  • Security & compliance tooling: GCP IAM, encryption services, compliance automation tools

Your know-how

  • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure, platform, or DevOps engineering roles

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience operating production workloads on Google Cloud Platform

  • Deep understanding of cloud networking, security controls, and identity and access management

  • Strong experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code best practices

  • Proven track record supporting high-availability, high-throughput production systems with strict reliability requirements

  • Experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines and containerized production environments

  • Hands-on experience with incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident documentation

  • Ability to communicate technical trade-offs and decisions clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders

It’s a bonus if

  • You have worked on financial systems, payment processing, or fintech infrastructure

  • You have direct experience with PCI DSS, SOC 2, or similar compliance frameworks

  • You have tuned PostgreSQL performance or scaled relational databases under load

  • You have implemented caching strategies using Redis or similar technologies

  • You have contributed to open-source infrastructure or DevOps tooling

  • You have experience with compliance automation platforms or edge security tooling
