Senior Software Engineer

Hybrid - Toronto

$130,000 - $180,000 + 0.3% – 0.5%

Your opportunity

Our client is seeking senior software engineers for their growing Toronto engineering hub.

It’s a venture that spun out of research on corporate commuting at Stanford University and led by a CEO with over a decade of experience innovating in the transportation technology space globally. With a rapidly expanding user base, regulatory tailwinds increasing demand, and a seed round recently oversubscribed by top climatetech and AI investors, it’s time to accelerate the product roadmap and harden the platform for scale.

Their product enables employers to craft commuter benefit programs without the corresponding back-office overhead typical of outdated incumbent solutions. They offer commuters an app-based, gamified, user-friendly mobility solution that reduces commuting costs, enables novel, multi-modal commuting options, and promotes active, open-air commutes.

This is an early-stage engineering opportunity with a team at the forefront of transportation and mobility innovation. The environment will be dynamic, fast-paced, and offer significant growth opportunities. The role comes with 2 thematic responsibilities:

  • Individual technical contributions: Developing production-grade backend, frontend, and infrastructure systems. Leading architecture and systems design decisions. Ensuring site reliability and scalability.

  • Technical leadership: Conducting code reviews and providing technical feedback. Mentoring and supporting engineering team members. Participating in the recruitment and selection process for the growing team.

Our client prioritizes both core/transferable engineering skills and specific experience with the existing stack when hiring. The tech stack is presently:

  • Backend: Python/Django REST framework (DRF), Redis, PostgreSQL

  • Frontend: React/React Native, Redux, TypeScript

  • Infrastructure: AWS, Heroku

  • Containers: Docker

The role will be remote-first and distributed until the team establishes their workspace in downtown Toronto, at which time it will become a hybrid role requiring 2 days/week in the office.

Your know-how

  • You have experience shipping production-grade, customer-facing software

  • You have experience designing and implementing backend and frontend systems

  • You have experience with DevOps practices/technologies and development tooling

  • You have experience mentoring engineers and providing technical guidance and feedback

  • You have a strong command of the English language

It’s a bonus if

  • You have startup/founding experience

  • You have transportation/mobility domain experience

  • You are experienced working with geospatial data and GIS systems

  • You have experience with payments systems

  • You have experience with machine learning
