Engineering Manager, Manufacturing AI

Remote-first – Canada (CT, ET, AT)

$115,000 - $165,000 + equity

Your opportunity

Our client is a well-funded, seed-stage AI startup that builds agents for the factory floor. They develop and distribute a software-first agent layer that plugs into the cameras and machines factories already have. Their models run and act at the edge so agents can see, decide, and act in real time. Events and metrics flow into a dashboard that provides plant teams immediate visibility. They’re approaching a large (~$14B) and underserved market with a disruptive, asset-light alternative to hardware-heavy robotics and batch analytics and they’ve already found early traction with clients in the food & beverage, pharma/cosmetics, and materials processing verticals.

As an engineering manager you’ll be stepping into a dynamic environment in its scale-up phase. At present, the engineering org is flat and product management is not yet segmented from engineering. Delivery teams are formed around problem/skill fit and the team is looking for a leader to bring light structure with an emphasis on increasing speed and efficiency. Day to day, you’ll orchestrate cross-functional skillsets (computer vision, software, hardware, and field/forward deployed engineers/ engineers), collaborate directly with the C-suite and steward the engineering teams through a critical and rapid period of growth.

The company closed a $13.9M CAD seed round in March of 2025 and are scaling R&D and delivery to meet accelerating demand, with headcount tracking to double by year-end.

Please note that this role involves travel to client sites across Canada and the US.

Key responsibilities

  • Engineering team & project management: Lead customer deployments from scoping through adoption, manage and mentor deployment engineers, design delivery processes and coordinate a cross-functional team comprised of hardware, computer vision, software and forward deployed engineers

  • Project delivery: Collaborate with customers and internal teams to estimate deployment timelines, monitor progress, remove bottlenecks and proactively report on risks to delivery timelines and budgets

  • Go-to-market support: Partner with other functional leaders to support late-stage sales and account expansion activities

  • Strategic leadership: Collaborate with the leadership team in the design and build-out of the engineering function as a whole inclusive of roadmapping, rituals, headcount planning and process optimization

Your know-how

  • You have 3+ years of experience solving manufacturing and/or industrial automation problems with software solutions

  • You have experience assembling, organizing and managing cross-functional delivery teams

  • You have fluency in engineering methodologies and the project management tooling that supports them

  • You are predisposed to mentorship and crafting a culture of continuous improvement

  • You have a fantastic, customer-facing command of English

It’s a bonus if

  • You have experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices

  • You’ve worked with PCI DSS or other security frameworks

  • You’ve built real-time payment systems or instant settlement features

  • You’ve contributed to open banking or financial data aggregation tools

  • You’ve worked at a high-growth fintech company before
