Senior Product Manager - Fintech
Your opportunity
Our client is a Canadian fintech operating in the payments space, handling over $1 billion in annual transactions volume across categories of spending most people and small businesses cannot avoid. The company built its position on a single high volume payments product and is now working toward becoming its customers' primary financial provider.
That ambition has opened several large, loosely scoped problem areas at once: new account and card products, consumer financial insights the team sees as underbuilt across the category, and business customer segments the company has barely touched. This role spans both consumer and business audiences, owning problems inside those areas rather than a fixed roadmap. You’ll have autonomy to prioritize your scope, and your focus may change month to month.
The product organization is deliberately small. You will be reporting directly to the Head of Product, working alongside three product designers and a team of roughly twenty engineers. A significant portion of the roadmap will be yours to shape.
Key responsibilities
Problem identification: Find the highest-leverage problems on your own, from data, user conversations, and market research, and bring the team a framed problem rather than a task list
Growth and conversion: Own measurable improvements to acquisition and activation, including onboarding conversion, which is a current priority
New product exploration: Take ambiguous bets in areas such as new account products, card products, and financial insights from open questions through to a defined, shippable direction
Consumer and business scope: Work across both audiences, moving between established consumer growth problems and a largely greenfield business segment as priorities shift
Quantitative analysis: Dig into funnel and product data page by page, isolate where users drop off, and turn what you find into concrete recommendations
Qualitative research: Talk to users directly and combine what you hear with the numbers to form a defensible point of view
Prototyping: Build prototypes yourself to pressure test ideas and give the team something concrete to react to
Prioritization and trade-offs: Make judgment calls on sequencing and scope independently, and defend them with clear rationale
Competitive and market research: Track what other fintechs are building, domestically and abroad, and translate that into opportunities for the business
Team clarity: Keep enough structure in place that the team knows what it is building and why, and keep work moving without relying on heavy process
Your know-how
5+ years in product management, or comparable experience founding and operating your own company
Experience in a startup or high growth environment where you carried real autonomy and made consequential decisions without close oversight
Strong quantitative ability and genuine comfort working in data on your own, without analytical support
A track record of pairing quantitative signal with qualitative research to reach recommendations you can defend
Fluency with AI tools and a working habit of using them in your own product practice
The ability to build prototypes and carry an idea from first framing through to a defined solution
Sound product judgment, and the ability to read trade-offs quickly and act on them
Bias for action, with a clear preference for shipping earlier over shipping perfect
Persistence when a project meets resistance, paired with the judgment to know when to stop pushing and move on
It’s a bonus if
You have founded or helped found a company, whether or not it reached scale
You have worked on consumer fintech, payments, credit, or banking products
You have owned an onboarding or activation funnel and moved the numbers
You have built products for business or small business customers
You have worked closely with product designers on small, blended teams
You follow product work as a personal interest and keep current on what is being built elsewhere
