Senior & Staff Software Engineers, Web3/DeFi

In-office (4x/week) - Toronto, Ontario

$180,000 - $220,000 CAD + equity

Your opportunity

Our client has built the market-leading, non-custodial liquid-restaking protocol on Ethereum and is now scaling into a full-stack “DeFi neobank.” The organization was profitable within a year of founding, is currently generating more than $1 million (USD) per employee, and has raised approximately $32 million (USD) in venture capital. Today, they secure billions of dollars in TVL and more than 100 000 wallets across a dozen Layer 2 networks, with products spanning liquid staking, automated yield vaults, a Visa card that turns staked collateral into everyday buying power, and an ambitious product roadmap.

This is an early-stage opportunity with a well capitalized, global, series A venture led by an accomplished and experienced founder. As of June 2025, they’re a team of 27 full-time team members with over half (14) of the company headcount in the growing engineering organization. The organization is currently looking to hire multiple engineers each month for the foreseeable future and has opportunities available across the stack. They’re currently considering backend specialists, frontend specialists, infrastructure specialists, and generalists.

At the time of writing, delivery teams are dynamically assembled based on a combination of project needs and the capabilities and affinities of the engineers on staff at the onset of a project. The company operates with a highly fluid organizational structure that evolves around planning cycles that occur every ~2 months. This highly iterative planning process invokes a betting table exercise where the entire team collaborates to prioritize, assign work, and organize into delivery teams guided by a technical lead. Engineering leadership purposefully keeps hierarchy light and structures fluid, though it’s reasonable to expect additional specialization and more firm team structures to take shape as the team scales.

This role is based in Toronto and requires in-office attendance 4 days per week.

Key responsibilities

  • Software engineering: Design, build, and run production code across the stack in a real-money, security-critical environment

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Leveraging agile rituals to partner closely with product, design, operations and go-to-market teams throughout the discovery, planning, refinement and delivery phases of the SDLC

  • Product roadmapping: Participate in bimonthly betting-table exercises to collaboratively establish the next leg of the development roadmap

  • Adaptability & innovation: Keeping abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends; experimenting with new tools and approaches to ensure that the team’s technology choices remain efficient, current, and well-suited to the mission and customer needs

  • Reliability & resilience engineering: Uphold audit-ready, open-source-friendly practices including bug-bounty triage and SOC2-aligned design

  • Technical leadership: Mentor juniors, interns and peers; refine engineering rituals, and help formalize best practices as headcount grows

Tech stack

  • Backend: Go, TypeScript/Node.js

  • Frontend: Typescript/React/Next.js, Turborepo

  • Cloud Provider: AWS

  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions

  • Infrastructure as Code + Containers: Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes

  • Monitoring, Observability & Alerting: Sentry, Datadog, PagerDuty

Your know-how

  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing production software

  • Fluency as either a backend, frontend, infrastructure or full-stack engineer

  • The ability and an affinity to co-create requirements with product & protocol researchers

It’s a bonus if

  • You have deep experience with Go, Python, or TypeScript

  • You have experience helping build a venture-backed or bootstrapped startup or scale-up

  • You have an acute interest in the crypto/Web3/DeFi space
